LAS FLORES TREEHOUSE
A bohemian treehouse suspended amongst the Sycamore trees.
MALIBU, CA. 2021.
Tucked alongside the creek of Las Flores Canyon, this transformed beach cabin became a dream retreat, blending flow, color, and sustainable sourcing throughout the design. The challenge was to create three distinct areas—living, working, and dining—within one expansive room. Leveraging the A-frame ceiling, we divided the space into two zones: a cozy living area and a dining nook perfect for hosting, with two workstations positioned on either side of the peak for the clients, two sisters. Project MAY embraced the original knotty pine paneling, choosing mid-century furniture to blend with the warm wood, modernize the space and visually open it up. Every piece was thoughtfully sourced secondhand, most interestingly a custom Jerry Johnson chair, reupholstered from vintage Levi’s jeans, adding a unique, personal touch to the design.
The cabin has been featured in photoshoots by photographer Taylor Colgate and in the short film And Then, I Was by Sophie Chan Andreassend.
